Banns were published in the bride's parish church of Old Machar (The cathedral - Saint Machar's - said to be the only ancient cathedral in the world that is built of granite), and stated that Robert Silver (was a) house carpenter (of) 81 John Street in the parish of St. Nicholas (The principal church of Aberdeen... once the largest parish church in Scotland). The marriage took place at Knowes of Elrick, Marnoch, Banffshire after banns according to the forms of the Free Church of Scotland. (Notes from John Stanhope)<hr> - .
Robert and his family migrated to Australia. They travelled by land from Aberdeen to London or Plymouth and embarked on the ship Samuel Plimsoll on 6 April 1883 as assisted migrants. They reached Sydney on 16 or 17 June 1883. Robert was described as a joiner, in good health and having no complaints about the ship. He purchased or built, on mortgage, a home at 26 Augustus Street Newtown.
